Winter Staple | Caheez Satin Lined Hats

Hello everyone! As December steps in and it's only getting colder I felt it was time for another chat about some of my wintertime staples. If you missed my last Winter Staple post about one of my favourite hoodie brands: Jobedu, you can check it out here. As for today, I'm talking about hats; specifically the brand, Caheez

I stumbled upon Caheez hats quite by accident while scrolling through Instagram about a year ago. The stylish woollen beanies claim to "enhance and protect the hairfrom elements within and beyond our natural control." Having lived through a couple of truly dreadful New England winters, I was desperate for something that could keep me warm while also not damaging my hair. I love the look of woollen beanies, but often the wool can strip curly hair of moisture; which coupled with the dryness of Boston winter, only creates more issues. I've always know that satin and silk products counter this problem by locking in moisture but I'd never heard of woollen hats that were lined with satin before, so I was eager to find out more about this product.

I'm always sceptical about companies that I hear about on the Internet but after learning about the founder Carla HelenĂ© 's commitment to the quality of the materials and overall product, it became clear that this was a respectable brand run by passion, hard work and determination. I decided to give it a go. My first purchase was The Purled Newsboy Cap in Cranberry** with a 10" diameter.

Now, just look at that! I instantly fell in love with colour online -- a beautifully rich and vibrant red; but I was not expecting the intricate black and white design on the satin inlay when it arrived. To be honest, I just assumed it would be something simple and plain on the inside to do the job of retaining moisture; functional rather than flash. Oh, how wrong I was. The detailed black and white satin interior not only did its job -- keeping my hair soft while the wool exterior kept me warm; but it looked brilliant too. I cannot tell you how many compliments I've gotten due to this hat!

I was so impressed with the craftsmanship that I decided to order another one. This time, I wanted to go with an even more wintry colour so I chose The Ringer Hat for Her, in Winter White with a 12" diameter

My version of the Ringer Winter White Hat came with a technicolour polka dot design inside; which reminded me of a boardwalk carnival -- a great way to add a bit of cheer to gloomy old winter.

At first, I felt that the Newsboy cap I'd originally purchased was a bit tight so I sized up to a 12" with the Ringer Winter White; but it was rather big when it arrived. I now realise that it was the brim on the Newsboy cap that made it feel tight, but I absolutely love the style and after a few washes, it fits just right. I also have no problem with big hats, so I wear both the white and the red quite often.

It is important to note that the hats are made to order and that Carla and her team sew all the hats themselves; so there will be a bit of a wait between the date you put in your order and when it arrives. The estimated time can vary depending on demand, but it is always written on the website, so be sure to read that before making your purchase. The average wait time is approximately six weeks, but I received mine in four. I assume this is because I purchased during a time when there were less orders. If you want a quicker turn-around time, I believe that later in the winter season Caheez also offers a "Ready to Ship" section of products that have already been sewn.

These hats are perfect for keeping curly hair soft and moisturized during winter, but I've also seen girls with straight/relaxed hair wear them to prevent frizz. The hats are so fun, functional and fabulous that they've become a winter staple for me. Fortunately, Caheez hats come in so many different styles and colours , I can definitely stock up on more!

How about you, what are some of your go-to favourites in winter?

** It seems that the Purled Newsboy Cap is no longer being made. However, the Classic Newsboy Cap is still in production as well as a new brimmed cap called the Seeded Newsboy Cap which is very similar to the Purled Newsboy Cap. Links below:

    1. Yes, they're adorable :) and yes I'm sure the move will be an adjustment, going from one extreme to the next. Before moving here a few years ago, I'd previously lived in London, Jamaica and California so I feel you girl; I was not ready for this! haha

Apart from these Caheez hats, LLBean has some great winter coats and boots that have saved my life over the past few winters. I'm thinking of doing a blog post on them soon, but it's definitely worth popping into one of their shops or looking online if you still need to stock up on winter wear.

      Welcome to Boston! :)
