What's for Dinner? ~ Homemade Meatballs in Marinara Sauce

Hello everyone, today I'm sharing my recipe for turkey meatballs in marinara sauce. Evoking your favourite memories of "Lady and the Tramp", this is a delicious dish, sure to delight your taste buds. So, let's get started!
INGREDIENTS
Serves 4
For the Meatballs:
Olive Oil
1 egg
1/3 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 (20 ounce) package of ground turkey
3 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
1/2 an onion, chopped finely
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of black pepper
1 tbsp of fresh basil
1 tbsp of fresh parsley
1 tbsp fresh oregano
1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper (optional)

For the Sauce:
1 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp of tomato paste
3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of black pepper
1 1/2 tbsp of fresh basil
1 1/2 tbsp of fresh parsley
1 1/2 tbsp of fresh oregano
1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper (optional)
3 to 4 tbsp red wine

In a medium to large bowl, mix the egg, garlic, onion, salt, black pepper, basil, parsley, oregano (and optional cayenne pepper). Using your hands, mix in the the turkey, breadcrumbs and 2 tbsp olive oil; and then form the mixture into balls. (Tip: Using an ice cream scooper helps to achieve uniformity when making the balls)

In a large Dutch oven, heat 4 tbsp of olive oil over a medium heat. Add meatballs and brown them on all sides, approximately 6 - 8 minutes. Then set aside.

In the same Dutch oven, add salt, black pepper, garlic, 1 tbsp basil, 1 tbsp parsley, 1 tbsp oregano, the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste (and optional cayenne pepper). Then stir and bring to a boil. After bringing the sauce to a boil; cover, reduce heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Then add the wine and browned meatballs; letting it simmer until they are fully cooked, about 15 more minutes.

Now all that's left to do is serve it with your favourite spaghetti. Garnish with the remaining basil and parsley and enjoy!
